The way this dessert makes your house smell is reason enough to make it! I don’t think much else can beat the aroma of apples and cinnamon baking. My mom is coming in town for Caroline’s birthday and this seems like the perfect fall dessert to nosh on her first night with us. This recipe is super simple and because I would rather scrape the crisp off the top and purely devour it, I made it with extra crisp (hopefully y’all do the same thing)!
5 large apples peeled and diced
3 Tbs pure maple syrup
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1c light brown sugar
1 c old fashioned oats
2/3 c white whole wheat flour
8 Tbs cold cubed unsalted butter ( 1 stick)
Mix in maple syrup, cinnamon and salt to apples and combine and set aside.
In separate bowl mix flour, brown sugar, oats, and butter together.
Place apples in bottom of greased dish. Pour flour mixture over top. With fork wiggle apples around so flour mixture settles in bottom and all around apples.
Place in oven and bake for 45-50 minutes until top in browned. Allow to cool before serving with fresh whipped cream or ice cream.
