Have you ever been to a spa and had their fruit or veggie water. You know, the water with the cucumbers in it?! It is heavenly stuff and always reminds me exactly where I am – free of kiddos and about to get rubbed from head to toe. It recently dawned on me that I can make this stuff at home and not just when we have guests over. I have experimented over the last couple of days with different combos and found some favorites that I thought I would share with you. My husband has LOVED having pitchers of this colorful water around and I know we have both consumed more water than we normally would have. It is so refreshing – you must try it. It tastes just like the brand hint!
As a side note, it has been a goal of mine for the past couple of years to cut back on my massive consumption of Diet Coke. I know that I need to find a replacement b/c I enjoy the act of sipping that brown, carbonated goodness too much to quit cold turkey. It has been a week, that’s right folks, a week (that’s victory around here) since I have had a beautiful, medium-sized, foam Chick-Fil-A cup of the good stuff. I’ve heard all of the research. I know that Diet Coke confuses your brain into thinking you’re more hungry than what you are. I know it keeps you from drinking water that your body so desperately needs to function well. I know that aspartame is going to give me a giant brain tumor one day. And I know I am purchasing, supporting and consuming something that goes against ALL of my personal convictions about what I put in my body. But man, IT IS SO GOOD AND NOTHING GOES BETTER WITH PIZZA AND A BIG BAG OF SALTY CHIPS – CAN I GET AN AMEN?!
So what’s helped me in this process? Well, first, let me say my intention is not to never drink Diet Coke again. I was just at the point where my body craved it every.single.day. So my goal is to ween myself from that state and just enjoy a Diet Coke every now and then. The combo of hot tea in the morning and this flavored water has really done the trick for me. The hot tea gives me the caffeine I want and is nice to hold onto in the morning as we get ready for our day. And the water has given me this refreshing, flavorful, better-than-regular-ole-water drink to sip on throughout the day.

Water Combinations (Get a large pitcher and fill half-way with water. Add in one of the below combos, add a cup of ice (or more if you prefer), and fill any room left in pitcher with more water. Store in fridge and use to fill glasses or water bottles. Fruit should keep for a couple of days if stored in fridge- so you can keep refilling pitcher with water without discarding fruit/veggies)
Strawberry-Green Apple: 4 large sliced strawberries, half of green apple sliced (I use golden delicious)
Strawberry-Blackberry-Basil: 4 large strawberries sliced, 1/4 c blackberries, 4 large basil leaves
Orange-Blueberry: Half of orange sliced, 1/4 c blueberries
Cucumber-Carrot: Half of cucumber sliced, 1 carrot sliced on angle (discard ends)
Orange-Rosemary: Half of orange sliced and 2 sprigs of rosemary
